BJJ- Crosstraining At Another Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School When You Travel

For some Maryland jujitsu athletes, training Brazilian jiu-jitsu is more than doing martial arts it’s a lifestyle for most BJJ practitioners. They love their Brazilian jiu-jitsu school that they train at, their teammates, and the instructors. They are dedicated to their team and refuse to train at a different Brazilian jiu-jitsu school. However if they have a job that requires them to travel a lot they might have to think about doing the unthinkable. Unless they have portable mats and a Brazilian jiu-jitsu partner to train with they will have to consider training at another school. If they truly love Brazilian jiu-jitsu they will find a way to keep training even if it is at another BJJ school.

When you are going to cross-train at another Brazilian jiu-jitsu school consider these unspoken rules first. Begin the search for Brazilian jiu-jitsu schools once you know where you are traveling to. Get a list of schools in the area you’ll been traveling to and show them to your instructor. MMA in MD instructors recommend asking your instructors for advice on which schools might be the best in that area. Some teams actually don’t like each other so cross reference with your teacher to make sure there won’t be an issue. Once you get approval from your instructor you can begin the process of contacting the BJJ school.

It’s better to contact the BJJ school that you are thinking about training at in advance instead of randomly showing up. By contacting the school they can tell you when it is the best time for you to come in. They will also be able to tell you if there is a mat fee or charge for training on their mats. You have to be careful when training at another school because you don’t know how their students spar. There are schools that roll extra hard with upper belts from a different school because they are afraid of an outsider coming in and beating them. The best fighters who get MMA training in MD aren’t afraid to train at a different school because they love training Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

BJJ- More Women Should Compete At NAGA Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Competitions

Maryland jujitsu instructors know that female grapplers are the rising trend right now, but there are still few good tournaments for women to compete in. How can the sport grow if the tournaments only have two or three women competing in each division? They are competing for the first, second, or third position medal. Sometimes there aren’t even any fighters in their division so they automatically get a gold medal instead of a refund. For some women $80-140 is a lot of money to gamble with. If they travel to tournaments that is even more money being wasted because there are tournaments that don’t let you see who has registered. For right now there will always be that risk when doing a grappling tournament. Unfortunately that is a chance that women have to take because it won’t evolve without women participating.  Women who do MMA in MD have this problem also

One popular grappling tournament is the North American Grappling Association (NAGA). NAGA hosts grappling competition in the United States and some places around the world. NAGA isn’t the greatest organization for female competitors yet. Grappling is one of the best workouts for women. There is still a lot of progress that needs to made in NAGA association. Unlike guys the women are also assigned to one mat for the whole day. It may not be a problem for some, but for others they will end up spending the entire day at the venue waiting for their match.

Other than that con NAGA is good about attracting female competitors to their tournament. Especially if they do No-Gi fights.  If you do No-Gi than NAGA tournaments will be great for you and you’ll almost always be guaranteed a match. There are a lot of women who compete at the white belt level in the Gi divisions. Nowadays there are more women who compete at the blue belt level too. Parents with kids who do children’s martial arts classes sign up them up for tournaments. BJJ Tips- How To Kill Time At Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournaments

There is nothing worse than going to a Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition and you are scheduled to fight at an inconvenient time. Maryland jujitsu instructors tell their students it doesn’t matter if you are happy that you get to fight first, middle, or last. It doesn’t matter which time you are scheduled to fight because you’ll end up waiting around regardless. Whether or not you are with a team can determine how you spend your time. If you are surrounded by a team of people that you enjoy being around then time will go by quickly.

If you are not a closed knit family type of team you can try these simple ideas to help pass the time till it’s your turn to fight. Inexperienced competitors will learn quickly that extra time before their match can effect their performance. New competitors have the tendency to get wrapped up in watching other competitors fight and that can affect their nerves negatively. Competitors who lose their focus quickly will have difficulty executing their game plan. Being scheduled to fight late into the day when you are close to passing your weight limit is a terrible situation to be in. Having to wait to fight is not good for BJJ competitors who are close on the weight for international tournaments. There is a chance that you can gain weight at the venue if you eat. MMA in MD students use this strategy when you are close to your weight limit you can eat as long as you go to weight scale carrying your food and seeing how you weight with gi and food in your hand. If it is over the limit then you can’t eat it.

There is a perk to getting to fight earlier. When you are done with your fight you have more freedom to walk around. You can eat whatever you want to eat. However it’s good for team if wait till all of your teammates compete before leaving. The top ways that competitors pass time is by listening to music or napping at the venue. Looking at other people compete can give you ideas on what you would like to work on in the future. You can visit the vendor shops at the venue of the competition. Students that get MMA training in MD train at various hours throughout the day so their body will have energy to fight no matter what time.
